In the series Logoratio the artist borrows recognizable features, taken from famous brands, to transfigure their meaning. Using a variety of pre-existing signs, which inevitably contain information about the character and identity of the associated brand, Francesco Tagliavia mixes and decontextualizes them. Although the hybridizations are unprecedented, the compositions are immediately recognizable.
His combining the power of different symbols and meanings, the artist creates images that are at the same time unique but familiar, close to everyday life but that trigger short-circuits of meaning. Francesco Tagliavia, remixing the signs of famous brands, brings to the surface a different key to interpret the contemporary.
Bio
Francesco Tagliavia is a Sicilian born, Milan based multidisciplinary designer, which sounds impressive but mostly means that he’s quick to learn and easily bored. Thanks to this, his work spans a variety of mediums, including film direction, photography, graphic and fashion design.
His creative career began as part of the collective, “Nuovo Cinema Casalingo,” where he made films that explored the contradiction between comedy and drama.
He received his Bachelor’s from the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania and is currently studying Fashion and Textile Design at NABA in Milan.
